Enterprise first came online in mid 1987 in Palmdale, California.  The System consisted of  a 64c,  (2) 1581 disk drives, A highly modified version of Ed Parry's, EBBS. at the  blazing speed of a 1200 BPS.  In late 1990 the board was passed off to a co-sysop, HDCOMM.   If you're out there HD, drop a line.   I don't know how long the board  lasted under the Captaincy of HDCOMM.

Fast forward 30 years

Around late 2019, I found a Commodore 64 and 1541 drive at a yard sale.   Didn't know if it worked, but bought it for nostalgic reasons.  Fired it up and low and behold it worked.   Again started my love of the Commodore and started buying up more gear, and quickly realized that Commodore still had a large following.  So many new devices to keep our Commies going and going.

So, I decided to put Enterprise back up!

Currently Enterprise is running on:

  • 64C in a painted VIC20 Breadbin case
  • Internal Heat sinks and Fan
  • Updated 12v Regulator, runs cooler
  • Reset Switch
  • JiffyDOS, with Custom "Enterprise" headers
  • IRQ Activity light (Gives it more horsepower)
  • 1541PiHat, running in 1581 mode for all files
  • SD2IEC serving as UL/DL storage
  • Color64BBS  V8.1
  • All tied into Older laptop running Win7, and BBS Server
  • Of course the 3ft long Polar Lights Enterprise model as a Mascot.

I couldn't begin to torture myself enough, so...

I decided I'd enter the Mirror Universe and Start a BBS called "The Terran Empire".  If you're a fan, you know what this is.  So,  I can't get enough of tinkering with machines and decided to put one of 4 Raspberry Pi's to work.   Well, not only does the Pi4 run Terran Empire, it also hosts this lovely website.

Terran Empire is running on:

  • Raspberry Pi4,  in a Pi Cluster, because..  why not?
  • 8Gb Memory
  • 500mb external disk
  • Mystic BBS Software
  • Enterprise WebSite also runs on this cluster, created with Blue Griffon on Linux Mint.
